Impact of the extension of learning time on the Platform of People Affected by the Mortgage
Recently, the study: Impact of the extension of learning time on the learning space of the platform for people affected by mortgages Tarragona was published in the journal Learning, Culture and Social Interaction, with two members of the IMSE group (formerly MEDIS), Carme Garcia Yeste and Oriol Ríos González, participating.
Housing is a social issue in Spain, but it is not only a problem for adults; children also suffer the consequences. Specifically, this research focuses on children, aiming to show how, despite the vulnerable situation they are in and the numerous educational barriers they face, it is possible to create transformative spaces.
The space was created in January 2017 as a result of various synergies. On one hand, as a result of the dialogic environment generated in the PAH's own assemblies. On the other, due to the active participation of the researchers in the PAH, along with evidence from previous research showing the relevance of dialogic environments and high expectations for all students, as is the case with the INCLUD-ED project. Against this backdrop, the possibility of creating a space for children was considered, where high-quality activities could take place while the family members attended the PAH assembly. Thus, a space was created where children receive support with learning and enjoy high-quality activities. Therefore, within the framework of the extension of learning time, activities scientifically backed, such as dialogic discussions and scientific workshops, are carried out.
In conclusion, based on this experience, the article demonstrates how scientifically backed actions, with quality learning activities in a dialogic environment, help children make sense of their learning and transform their educational expectations. However, the study not only seeks to understand the impact of the extension of learning time but also shows how, through the active participation of researchers and the community, barriers are transformed into opportunities.
