IMSE receives the Joan Pedrerol Gallego award for social impact in research

The research group has been awarded for its social impact in overcoming social exclusion through educational success. The Joan Pedrerol Gallego Award consists of two modalities, Ex Ante and Ex Post, and it is in the latter that the work carried out by the researchers of the IMSE research group has been recognized. In fact, the IMSE group, as its name indicates: Social Impact and Education, has always strived to carry out research that improves society, meaning that it has social impact.

Over the last 13 years, the IMSE group (formerly MEDIS) has played and continues to play a fundamental role in the transfer of Successful Educational Actions (AEE), especially in the Camp de Tarragona. These actions generate improvements in academic results and in coexistence both at the center where they are implemented and in the community as a whole (environment). The work carried out in the territory shows how it is possible to overcome social exclusion based on scientific evidence in education.

The researchers of the group have published more than 60 scientific articles detailing actions in the educational field to overcome social exclusion, such as the extension of learning time in schools, CRAEs, and other spaces with students at risk of social exclusion, such as in the Platform of Affected People by the Mortgage in Tarragona. The results of the research show how the transfer of the AEE has impacted the educational improvement and expectations of children and youth from highly vulnerable environments in the area, an impact recognized by the Rovira i Virgili University.
