New cooperation project by URV Solidària led by IMSE with Senegal

Carme Garcia, a member of the IMSE research group, will lead the URV Solidària cooperation project titled "Use of communicative methodology for the development of a 'map of opportunities' in the Mbour area of Senegal." The project will last 18 months and has received funding of €4,940. Six members of IMSE are involved, along with two members of the Diocesan Delegation for Migration of Senegal.

Senegal has been chosen for its strategic location due to the high number of arrivals to Spain, its geographical proximity, and the existing cultural ties. The main objective of the project is to approach and understand the diversity and complexity of migration projects, as well as the multiplicity of causes and consequences derived from them. Communicative methodology will be an ideal tool for this approach as it is recognized by the European Commission as the most suitable for analyzing the situation of the most vulnerable groups.

The specific objectives of the project are:

  • Design a communicative-oriented research to analyze the existing opportunities for the population in the Mbour area of Senegal.

  • Training of DDMS staff and related entities in the use and application of communicative methodology.

  • Develop a brief theoretical framework of the social, political, and economic situation in the Mbour area of Senegal.

  • Collect the voices of people from the Mbour area to identify the barriers and opportunities to overcome social exclusion.

  • Identify successful actions in overcoming the situation of social exclusion in the Mbour area and/or Senegal.

  • Prepare a report that summarizes the map of opportunities in the Mbour area of Senegal, following the communicative methodology and aimed at social impact.
