DISSEMINATION

The fourth edition of the FECYT project "Extended Learning Time IV: Helping to Create Scientific Vocations in Foster Care Centers" begins.

In January, the scientific workshops that are part of the fourth edition of the project, funded by the Spanish Federation of Science and Technology (FECYT) and led by the MEDIS research group (since 2023 IMSE, Social Impact and Education), began. The project aims to promote education and foster scientific vocations in vulnerable groups.

Due to the situation created by COVID-19, this edition was designed so that the project could be carried out both virtually and in person. Its development consists of the implementation of Dialogic Scientific Discussions (TCD), a successful educational action identified in the European project INCLUD-ED (2006-2011) from the 6th Framework Programme, where participants will have the opportunity to share high-level scientific readings and engage in discussions about their contributions. These readings have been selected by scientific experts in various fields, who will also provide training sessions.

This edition includes the head of the socialization area at IPHES (Catalan Institute of Human Paleoecology and Social Evolution), a researcher in Science Education, a professor of Chemical Engineering, a researcher in Chemistry, Physics, and Inorganic Chemistry, a researcher from the Catalan Institute of Chemical Research, and a researcher from the Department of Specific Didactics at the University of Zaragoza.

The participating centers are three Residential Educational Action Centers (CRAE) in Catalonia, an adult education center in a Catalonian prison, and a housing unit for young women under guardianship in Cantabria. These centers will voluntarily implement the project as part of the extended learning time.

The project is expected to finish in July, when the social impact will be evaluated, also considering the new profiles that, due to the positive situation generated by the pandemic, have facilitated their participation.
