Upstander Online Training (Ireland, March) to Prevent Violence Against LGBTIQ+ Youth
Do you work with youth in formal or non-formal institutions? Do you want to know how to help change its culture to walk towards Zero-Violence?
Whether you work or participate at a high school, a university, a youth, leisure or LGBTI entity, this training is for you!
At Up4Diversity (European Commission REC Programme Project) we have a clear purpose: providing our selected and diverse trainees with the science-based knowledge & skills that will help them be more successful in preventing and standing up against any form of violence, especially that aimed at LGBTI youth.
Bystander intervention, the action of all the members of the community against violence, has demonstrated to be the answer, and our training is all about teaching this approach.

From the Up4Diversity European project, we have organized this same training workshop in 5 countries.
It will consist of a Workshop carried out in 3 synchronic online sessions.
We will have 2 parallel events for Ireland in March:
- Event 1 on Wednesdays 2, 9, 16 (3pm-5:30pm)
- Event 2 on Thursdays 3, 10, 17 (4pm-6:30pm).
Session 1: LGBTIQ+ conceptualisations and legal framework; cyberbullying; introduction to upstander intervention
Session 2: Upstander intervention; what is behind violence; the preventive socialisation of gender-based violence
Session 3: Community involvement in preventing violence; successful strategies; a debate based on a scientific article
The training will follow a dialogical approach: explanations will encourage questions and comments; some dialogue-based activities will be proposed to problematize and put to practice what has been learned.
We have limited vacancies (15 maximum per event): therefore, and since the project seeks to achieve social impact, we will select those participants who really want to create change with the youth they work with, or in their educational institutions.
A certificate of participation will only be given to participants who attend at least 2 of the 3 sessions and prepare one activity.
If you have any doubts or comments about the training, write to us at up4diversity@gmail.com
We hope to see those of you interested in implementing upstander strategies in your youth environments! And we invite you to share it with anyone who might be interested in participating.
